The following are links to colleges with wrestling programs. One must consider several factors when considering colleges. 1) Affordability - you don't want to be in debt all of your life. However, in some fields of endeavor a pricey education can be beneficial. 2) Institution itself - good campus/professors/students. In most cases a smaller college offers many benefits a larger college may not...personal touches like profs knowing your name and caring about you as a person a well as a sense of community on campus. In many cases a smaller college has a more aesthetically pleasing campus. Also, and most importantly, it must have the course of study you wish to pursue. Additionally, be sure that the institution falls in line with your thinking...that the profs are educating you and not simply indoctrinating you. Education is getting you to think, study and find the truth...indoctrination is simply telling one side and telling you how to think. Whatever you believe, believe it because you found it to be the truth. 3) Team/Coach - Does this team have a place for you. What are your goals? Are you going to a place where you have a good chance to start right away...or to a place where you will advance as a wrestler and maybe compete later. Remember you have 5 years to compete in four seasons. Do you dream big and aspire to the Olympics? Even some small D-III schools have coaches who are top notch freestyle/greco competitors/coaches with which to train. Is there a nearby club program? The Minnesota Storm trains freestyle/greco in Minneapolis and is a top greco training center. Several of the D - III schools earned top value education rankings nationally. Many of these institution's wrestling team's ranked amongst the highest cumulative team g.p.a.'s in the nation. Also, several of these institutions are religiously affiliated schools...whether it be Catholic or Protestant, this may or may not be a factor for you. Also many colleges, like Longwood in Farmville, have club wrestling that compete against other club programs and some D- III schools, and even have a national championship, if you would just like to keep wrestling whilst you complete your higher education. Do not be afraid to look at schools and programs that are not nearby. It would be an experience just to be submerged into a totally new culture, not know anyone, and meet people from other parts of the country and world. The best time to have an adventure is when you are young and limited in responsibilty...get out and see the country or world. |
